CTE Summer Camp at CPC - Grades 8

Are you headed to high School in the Fall? Come and explore some of the exciting classes offered at the Career Prep Center! Space is limited to the first 60 students and includes a t-shirt, daily snack, and hands-on experiences in Computer Aided Design/Engineering, Culinary Arts, Dental Science, Graphic Design, Health Science and Marketing/Entrepreneurship.

RISE AND SHINE! - Grades 4-7

Healthy mind, healthy body, healthy connections! Students will connect with staff and their peers in a fun outdoor environment. Meetings will begin with a trust circle and students will be lead through mindfulness activities and stretches. Students will engage in team-building activities and walking during the session. The session will close with snack and socialization/reflection.

Sing & Dance Parking Lot Play Party - Grades 5 & 6

Come learn to sing and dance the "play parties" of the pioneers. We’ll sing the songs we dance to—just like the pioneers of old! Some of these play parties are more like games than dances. Maybe that’s why they’re called “play” parties!

Social-Emotional Learning/SEL - Grades 5 -7

This class is designed to introduce students to social-emotional learning. The main focus of the class will be to give students needed support and instruction this summer to prepare them for the transition to the next school year. Skills like recognizing and managing emotions, being a good friend, controlling impulses, communicating effectively, and working well with others will be the programs objectives.

Screenwriting 101 - Grades 6-11

Students will learn the format and structure of screenwriting, including story arcs, character dialogue and action. Students will write a short film and have other students read it. Students will use a free online program to write their own short film!

Mission MMSTC - Upcoming Freshman and Sophomores

MMSTC upcoming Freshman and Sophomores are invited to participate in a five day camp where they will participate in a number of team building exercises and study strategy workshops framed around the "7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens." Students will develop skills to help them excel in the MMSTC program.

Intro to Pottery/Ceramics - Grades 8-11

A week long introduction to pottery methods, practices, and tools. Students will create different hand-building projects, get to try the pottery wheel, underglaze (paint) projects, and be able to pick up their finished projects later in the summer at a date determined by instructor.

Math Problem Solving and Book Club - Grades 6-8

This is a combination math and reading class. Students will read the chapter book Restart by Gordon Korman, together in a book club format. It is about middle school students, bullying and changing to be a better person. Algebra, story problems and fractions will also be demonstrated during the math portion of the class.

A writer's notebook is a place to store thoughts, ideas and experiences. This class offers simple strategies for kids to write for the pleasure writing. This type of writer's notebook is not graded, but a place that is special to nurture the creativity of writing.

WCSPA Summer Sessions - Grades 8-11

Option #1: Costume Crafts and Quick Patterning
Hand sewing, machine sewing, dye craft, and so much more! Learn everything you need know to start creating cosplay, costumes, and fashion looks of your own right now!
Option #2 Movement, Sound, and Improvisation
Learn how to use the tools you have at your disposal every day to create compelling, interesting, and entertaining performances. Elements of dance, music, acting, and improv combine to create pure fun. If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to break out of your shell, come learn how to be the most entertaining version of exactly who you already are. Workshop performance outdoors 4:15 Thursday.

Painting for the Stage - Grades 7-11

Participants will paint various painting techniques that theatrical painters use to create environments. Participants apply painting techniques learned in WCS art classes. No prior art class training required. Some of the things we will paint are bricks, rocks, and different types of foliage. Participants will take home their finished products at the end of the program.

Poetry and Performance - Grades 8-11

This is a creative and fun performance poetry class that allows students to explore writing in a non-competitive and non-judgmental environment. The class will consist of writing, editing, and the rhythm of reading poetry aloud. Students will each create an original poem and look at other poetry for inspiration. Students will perform their poem, and time permitting, we will write one song together in class. The focus is on an original, eye-opening adventure of words!

Concert Lighting - Grades 7-11

Participants will explore and create a light show similar to stuff seen on TV at the MTV VMA Awards, Grammy Awards, The Voice, etc. Participants will collaborate to create a light show to music of their choice. Participants will leave with videos of their lighting designs realized on the WCS Performing Arts Center stage, and knowledge of how theatrical lighting works.

Baking from Scratch - Grades 7-11

Learn tips and techniques for creating simple baked goods that are far superior to store-bought products. Benefits of home baking include: relief of stress and anxiety, stronger relationships with friends and family, expression of creativity, developing self-esteem and independence. Recipes include: cookies, simple cake, pie, biscuits, and celebration cake. No previous cooking experience required.
