WMHS C2 Pipeline

C2 Pipeline is a program sponsored by Wayne State University, College of Nursing, and many university and non-university partners. C2 Pipeline is a college and career ready afterschool program that incorporates S.T.E.M. in a project based, hands on learning environment with a focus on health careers, which enhances and links a student’s secondary educational experience.

The program is designed to work with schools that serve a high concentration of low-income students. Invitations are given to schools which are considered low preforming (based on criteria set by the Michigan Department of Education). C2 Pipeline’s focuses on; increasing graduation rates, improving academics, and helping to ensure students are college/career ready. C2 Pipeline’s program goals will prepare students to become college and/or career ready.

C2 Pipeline is a 38 week program model which includes two and a half hours of after school activities, Monday – Thursday, for 32 weeks and six weeks of summer programs. The program aligns to the Michigan State Board of Education’s Goal and Reform Priorities, as well as, to the School Improvement Plans, Michigan Department of Education GLEC’s, and individual district goals. The 32 week program is held at the individual school buildings. Currently the program is offered at 16 different high schools.

C2 Pipeline’s Diagram Activities afterschool provides a full dinner to every student. The Academic Center and enrichment activities may include: Anatomy in Clay, Mentoring in Medicine, C.S.I., Health Rocks, Youth Council, All About Me, Explore It/Design It, Robotics, Tech Xcite, Career Exploration, Cedar Point Physics, Underwater Robotics, Youth Health Service Corps, plus others. Activities are supplemented by speakers, field trips and college visits.

Site coordinator: Carla Carlton

Carla Carlton is currently the Site Coordinator at Warren Mott High School. She is a graduate of Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education including an endorsement in Science. She is a certified teacher and have taught students at many different grade levels and different subject from grades 1 through 8.
It is her goal to provide each student with a quality and enriching after school program meant to enforce the importance of higher education and to encourage interest in the fields of medicine and science.
