Studies
This week we will be working on our Native
American Research Reports. Please remember
that you child’s notes are due on Tuesday, February 7th. The
notes will be returned with comments on February 9th. Please make
sure you are using complete sentences!
Science
This week we will
start investigating light. Students will gain an understanding of how light
gives us sight. They will look at their eyes in the bright light and in
darkness. We will also begin to discuss how light travels.
Math
This week in math we will be wrapping up Unit 2. We
will be taking a test on Tuesday. The test will be on chapter 8: dividing using
fact families. This will wrap up Unit 2 and we will begin Unit 3: Geometry,
Fractions, and Decimals.
Student
Council
Our student council is raising money to help an
endangered animal. They choose to donate to endangered tigers because we are
the Wilde Tigers. We will be having different activities to help raise money.
On Feb. 8th, students will be able to bring in a stuffed animal to
school if they donate fifty cents.

Native American Research Project
Over
the next several weeks, you will be researching about a Michigan Native
American Tribe. The tribe will be
selected for you. This will be a
collaborative project in Social Studies class with Mrs. Boudia
and with Mrs. Roberg our media specialist. Below you will find all the specific
information needed for the research project.
This assignment
will have 3 parts.
Part 1:
You will
write a 1 page research report on the
Native American tribe selected for you.
You will gather as much information as possible about your Native
American tribe. There will be time
allotted to you in Media, Social Studies, and in your own classroom computer
time.
Part 2:
You will have
to create an interesting cover for your report.
The cover for your report needs to include an illustration of your tribe.
It can be created with marker, crayons, or colored pencils. (Please do not use clip art)The cover should include your name, the
tribe you are researching, and the due date of the project.
Part 3:
You will
create a poster board with pictures
of your tribe. You must find at least 5 pictures from the internet of artifacts
from the tribe you are researching (for example: tools, clothing, food) under
each picture you should include a caption describing your picture. A tri-fold poster is suggested.
