Auditions were completed yesterday for the remaining two afternoon shows, The Performance Tour and Singin' in the Rain. The three snow days have really compressed the rehearsals for Performance Tour, but it looks like it will still be a solid presentation that is sure to impress.  The last show, Terpsichore Onstage (the annual dance concert) went well, but was poorly attended.  The student choreography was particularly outstanding this year.
Level One students are currently learning their music while working with Mrs.Cleveland on their show A Pocketful of Rhymes.

Lots have happened and lots to come.  Congrats to Jared North, who recently won a Michigan State Thespian Scholarship for Performance.  Also, every person that competed in individual events competition either won a superior or excellent award.  The Dance Concert is in rehearsal as well as some smaller projects.
On January 17th we will honor those students that competed at the State Festival, along with the Board of Education, at 7:00PM at the Administration Building.  Audition for the remaining shows will take place the week of February 5th.
Last but not least, Mr. Hart and his wife Kim are expecting their first child (a life-long WCSPA student) on June 30th.  Congrats!

November  20, 2006

Well, we did it: four productions in 3 weeks.  In the past three weeks we had our annual Shakespeare Night, performed the musical "American Beauty", did an original production of television sitcoms and commercials and performed our major production of the fall "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".  We will performing "Cuckoo's Nest" again at the Michigan State Thespian Festival on December 2nd.  If you missed the show, you missed a good one.  The production was rich with great character work from a variety of students in Level 2, 3 and 4.
A large group of students will be representing WCSPA and Troupe 1000 at the upcoming State Theater Festival on December 1st and 2nd. If you would like to see various our participating students perform, come to the next Booster Meeting on November 29th. Our scholarship representatives will be Zach Thomas in (Service) and Michelle Szejbach and Jared North in (Talent).
Congrats to Laura Anderson, who won a set of Playbill Collections for WCSPA by entering us in a contest.  We were one of the 100 winners nationwide.

This last couple of weeks in WCSPA, have been very productive. Level 1 has begun their Shakespeare unit. Mr. Hart is teaching the history of Shakespeare, Mr. G has taught the kids Sonnet 116 and is now helping them block their Shakespeare scenes, and Ms. B is teaching them Shakespearean dancing and bowing. Level 1 will be performing their scenes and dance numbers on November 2nd in the P.A.C at 7:00pm .  This performance is free, so come support your Level 1 in their 1st WCSPA performance!

In the upper levels, it is nonstop rehearsals for this fall’s different productions. Mr. Hart’s Theatervison cast has been working diligently on their show which will consist of 3 full-length episodes of your favorite sitcoms performed by the students, a mix of wonderful commercials, and more! Ms. B and Mrs. Cleveland have been working with students to perform American Beauty, a musical about children in beauty pageants. These performances are also free, so come see both of these performances on November 8th in the P.A.C. at 7:00pm for a night full of fun!

Last but not least, our 1st big main stage performance of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest has been working as hard as ever in rehearsals. It is a story about a mental ward and its inhabitants, especially the tyrannical Nurse Ratched and R.P. McMurphy, the brawling, fun-loving new inmate who resolves to oppose her. We see the struggle through the eyes of Chief Bromden, the seemingly mute half-Indian patient who witnesses and understands McMurphy's heroic attempt to do battle with the awesome powers that keep them all imprisoned. Come see the show on November 17th and 18th in the P.A.C. at 7:30pm . Ticket prices are $7 for students and seniors and $10 for adults.

As Ad Sales have begun, so has a new year of classes filled with many new opportunities of learning about theater. Level One has been continuing working on stage combat with Mr. Hart and Mr. G has been working on vocal and pronunciation techniques.
In the afternoon, Mr. G has been working on subtext, motivation and objectives with all the upper levels. Mr. Hart has been working with Level 2 on acting vocabulary, The Stanislavski Method with Level 3 and college prep with Level 4. Mrs. Cleveland also came in a couple days this week to work on characterizing Musical Theatre.

September 22nd, 2006
As the week began, so did our first rehearsals in the afternoon. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest was cast on Friday as well as Ms. Brockington's musical, American Beauty & Mr. Hart's TV & Film Show. On Wednesday & Thursday, the upper levels continued classes and their Musical Theater Unit taught by Mrs. Cleveland.
Level 1 continued working on dance vocabulary with Ms. Brockington and started learning theatre terminology and stage combat with Mr. Hart. In Mr. Gillespie's class, students learned how to articulate their vowels and consonants using the qualities of voice.
Today was our 5th annual Team Day/Kick-Off To Ad Campaign, in which all the levels participated. We began the day with bagels and OJ and then we played a game in which we all sat in a circle and introduced ourselves, which helped everyone bond and causing new friendships to blossom.  We also played True Colors, a game that helped us reveal qualities of our personality by grouping us into colors that represented different traits. An annual favorite is the Level 4 skit that taught us how to sell an ad properly. After pizza-party lunch, we broke off into our ad groups and competed against each in a game called Small Appliances, in which we used our bodies to reenact household appliances. We concluded the day by creating a cheer for each of the ad groups. We also voted on a new design for a WCSPA T-shirt.

This week was an active week, including our first shop call of the year, as well as our annual Parent Introductory Meeting.  Next week comes Team Day and the kickoff to Ad Campaign.  Level One students are hard at work learning dance vocabulary, vocal technique, stage vocabulary and just getting to know one another.   They will start stage combat early next week.
Congrats to last year's seniors.  We've already heard that Kellyn Uhl, Andi Slisinger and Louis Sallan have all gotten roles in the Fall of their freshman year!
