Old Business:
New Business:
- Competitive cheer had representatives at the meeting. Gymnastics is a requirement for competitive cheer. We have set up to have a gymnastic coach come to the school for 90 minutes and it costs $12 a person a week. It costs approximately $134/girl for eleven weeks. Instead it only costs $40. Motion to give competitive cheer $1500 for gymnastics. Seconded by Francis. Motion approved.
- Todd Biederwolf and representative from MCC talked about dual enrollment. Today hundreds of students are eligible for dual enrollment, only a handful is taking advantage of it. Students should take advantage of advance placement and dual enrollment. They can attend any public school in the state. They can take a college course and earn credits. The only cost is an enrollment fee of $80 and text books. You can graduate with 15 credits it is your tax dollars coming back to you. WCS will pay the tuition. Students must take the plant test and MME as a junior. Many are online classes, but they don’t have to be. College credits are transferable. They can be used for both college credits and for graduation. MCC is in the area but you can go to any public college. The application plus dual enrollment form must be signed by a parent. There are a few restrictions but the counselors know them. Visit MCC website at www.macomb.edu for a list of classes available at the college. You can take only a total of 6 courses between high school and college. No extras. You can not take a class that is offered at SHHS. Students can start in the 2nd semester of their sophomore year. Since the student is a student at the college, they have access to the student center, tutoring, etc. Many more families need to know about dual enrollment. The district pays the tuition where ever you go. Goal is to get more students dual enrolled.
