Dear Parents,

On March 23, I will begin an amazing journey to Shanghai, China!  I am one of six educators from Warren Consolidated Schools who have been selected to visit schools and businesses in China.  We are very grateful to the International Higher Exchange Collaboration (IHEEC) and their President, Dr. Walter Zhou, for funding the trip and hosting us during our visit.

The IHEEC has an ongoing partnership with Warren Consolidated Schools and Sterling Heights High School.  The partnership spans a period of five years during which six Chinese students have attended Sterling Heights High School on a long-term basis while living with host families in the school district area.

I will be visiting Shanghai, Hongzhou, and Jinhua during the seven days I will be in China.  This trip is an awesome opportunity to experience the educational and business context in which Chinese and American societies operate to compete in a growing global economy.  During our stay, we will tour several elementary, middle and High Schools.  We will also visit Shanghai University and businesses.

Although we have a very packed itinerary, I am hoping, each night, to record the daily highlights through a blog I have started!  Please follow my journey:

This website is also linked to the Jefferson Website.  Just click on the button, at the top of the page that says: Journey to China!

I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break.  Hopefully, the weather will continue to stay warm and sunny!  I look forward to sharing more details of my trip with our students after Spring Break!

Ms. Davis

Student Placement for Next year

It is that time of year when parents begin to ask about student placement for next year.  The procedures we use here at Jefferson are based upon WCS Board Policy.  To help you understand these procedures, I will answer the most frequently answered questions:

  1. When are students placed in classes for next year?

At the end of May, teachers will meet together and with me to make preliminary placements for the next school year.

Q.   How are students placed in classes?

Students are placed in classes to accomplish as much balance as possible.  Consideration is given to academic ability, social behavior, leadership qualities, individual needs and gender.  Using this and other criteria, all attempts will be made to balance classes.  It is the current classroom teacher who is most familiar with your child’s learning style and individual needs.  Using this knowledge, the staff will be able to make the best recommendation for your child.

  1. When will these placements be finalized?

Sometimes events occur over the summer which may make it necessary to add/delete a classroom or change teaching personnel.   Therefore, it may be necessary to change class placement through the end of August.

  1. Can parents request placement in a particular classroom?

Parents who have special considerations should submit a letter to me explaining the educational circumstances they would like to have reviewed by the placement team.  Specific requests for a particular teacher cannot be made.  There are no guarantees in regards to placement.  Letters of consideration need to be submitted to the Main Office no later than May 11, 2012.

Be Safe in the Parking Lot!

Please hang up your cell phones before driving into the school parking lot!  With  so many children walking through the parking lot, it is your responsibility to be as safe as possible.

When you drop off your children in the morning, you MUST use the Drop-Off Lane closest to the school.

If you are walking your children through the parking lot, please do not walk in the path of a moving car.  Often I will see parents walk in front of a moving car...the, get upset at the driver for not seeing them.  Both walkers and drivers need to take responsibility for safety!

Buckle up your Children!  Also, small children should be in the back seat.  I realize the trip home may be a short one, however, most accidents occur within two miles of home.

And....Drive slowly!
