What is a Professional Learning Community (PLC)? A Professional Learning Community is a structure in which all staff work collectively to reach desired outcomes for the entire school community. The shared mission, vision and values of a PLC are integral components that ultimately impact student achievement and the climate of our school culture. Staff work hand in hand to gather pertinent information and data about student achievement. Following data collection, strategic interventions are put in place to help students meet academic expectations and criteria. A PLC is based on collaborative teams of educators focused on continuous improvement. Members of the collaborative team realize that having good intentions for our students is not enough! The basis of continuous improvement is determined by results~ not intentions.
Grissom Vision Statement The Grissom community will model respectful and responsible behaviors in a safe environment where all can achieve educational growth. Grissom Mission Statement Grissom Middle School is committed to educating and making a difference in the lives of our students.
The Warren Consolidated Schools’ catch phrase for our Professional Learning Community initiative is “Failure is not an option!” Grissom Middle School is committed to this mission. We use four guiding questions as our focus for continuous, student improvement: 1. What is it we want our students to learn? 2. How will we know that they have learned it? 3. What will we do when they don’t learn it? 4. What will we do when they already know it?
