Media Center Procedures Student Check-out Limits: Kindergarten - 1 book, 2 after Thanksgiving break. First through Fifth Grade - 3 items We have books, magazines, books on tape, Leap Frog machines and learning games to check out. Items can be checked out by students for 2 weeks (14 school days) If an item is not renewed, it will become overdue after 2 weeks.  Overdue notices are sent to students every Monday as a friendly reminder.  Students are not fined for overdue books, however they are not allowed to check out new books until the overdue material is returned. Fillmore's Media Center is open during school hours (8:35am to 3:44pm) Fillmore has an "open Media Center" policy.  Students in grades K through 5 are encouraged to come to the Media Center whenever they have time during the afternoon to exchange books. Students also come often to the Media Center in small groups and a whole class.

 

 

Accelerated Reader-Rainforest Readers

v    Students will choose a book based on their reading/grade level.  Students are encouraged to read a book at least twice (younger students) or take notes for those students reading longer chapter books.  A student will not be allowed to retake a test they have failed.

v    Each grade level has a goal of total points for the grading period.

v    When they reach their goal, their rainforest reader ticket with their name goes on the bulletin board in the rotunda.

v    Rainforest Readers party at the end of each grading period for students who meet or exceed their goal.

·         First grading period (through Nov. 13)- Lunch in the rainforest with Mrs. Jenkins

·         Second grading period (Nov. 16-Jan. 29)- Animals in Every Layer distance learning program

·         Third grading period (Feb. 1-Apr. 23)- Rainforest Treats (make your own snack and pack)

·         Fourth grading period (Apr. 26-June 11)- Rainforest Games (bring in your own games for fun times with friends

·           End of year (met goal all 4 times, top point earner in their grade)-to be determined

v    AR Stars drawings still on Friday-students can submit a slip if they pass a test that week (80% at their grade level)-5 names drawn.

v Because they are worth so many points, Harry Potter books are ineligible towards your Accelerated Reader goal.  The aim is to read a variety of books in order to reach your goal.
