Happy Memorial Day!

Tuesday This week's focus is non-fiction literature.
Last Friday we jumped ahead and looked at two critical movie reviews of Star Wars...one from the release date and one written 20 years later. Students will continue - for many who were absent, they will begin - reading and writing assignmnets for this material.
Wednesday A look at Thomas Edison...written by Charles Edison.
Thursday Mr. J.'s world-famous "newspaper skills" assignment.
Friday Substitute in class...students will work on PRQs both hours.

Tuesday Because of the need for lab time to work on the Michigan Constitution online, students will, today, complete their chapter 24 study questions on state government.
Wednesday Students will use the text Understanding Democracy to work through the material on local government.
Thursday Students will use the text Understanding Democracy to work through the material on local government.

For the week of May 21, 2007
Monday Students will complete page design that was started last Friday. They will design a Prom 2007 page and a Fitzpatrick Manufacturing field trip 2007 page.
Tuesday Students will learn to edit images using the photo software editor provided on the lab computers. They will continue page design.
Pages will be viewed by the class for evaluation.
Wednesday New page ideas will be proposed & designed following brief, but further, web site evaluation.

Monday Last Friday students completed a quiz on the TAUG and the Teacher Handbook.

This week students will explore the Master's Degree Culminating Project entitled "Intellectual Property, Copyright & Fair Use: What You Need to Know." This project was designed by Mr. J., Christine Abbey & Christina Ellis. Visit the site!
Tuesday School web site design. The class will read & discuss "Why in the World Wide Web?" Note: This article appeared in the January, 1997 issue of Technology & Learning and is copyrighted by Jamie McKenzie.
Wednesday No class. Many students from CHS will be on the Fitzpatrick Manufacturing tour field trip. All remaining students will be involved in another activity on site.

Wednesday 3rd hour only:
No class. Many students from CHS will be on the Fitzpatrick Manufacturing tour field trip. All remaining students will be involved in another activity on site.
4th hour:
Students will write formal business thank-you letters to Mike Fitzpatrick and to their individual tour guides. Students who did not attend will also write the letters, indicating their appreciation for making the opportunity available and for the CHS student body.

Monday Noted in last week's plans: Review of school Acceptable Use Guidelines (AUG) information and an introduction to copyright and intellectual property. Students will discuss information provided by the district's Technology Director.
Today's focus will be the WCS AUG paper.
Tuesday

Today's focus will include a look at the brief letter by the district's technology director concerning software violations. The discussion will then shift to a look at Copyright and Intellectual property. Students will read and discuss the following:

"A Teacher Handbook: Intellectual Property, Software Piracy, Plagiarism and Copyright: Including a Practical Application Guide" written by Mr. J. during his graduate program.

Last week's Article I study questions occupied Wednesday and Thursday; students viewed and wrote notes from a cable news video on Friday that presented both political and current issues.
Today students begin reading the Constitutional Amendments 1-27.

Today's class work is a comprehensive look at the United States Constitution: Article V. It involves an interactive PowerPoint presentation that allows students to comprehend the weighty text, to understand it practically and to see the connection to real-world math. Yes..."Math Matters"! Students will not only view the presentation; they will compute real-world math exercises directly from the Constitution. Check out the presentation.

Students will receive the guidelines for writing their "Spring Break" narrative writing assignment and begin the composition.

Students will continue writing their "Spring Break" narrative writing assignment.
4th hour:
Final, brief review of model/sample persuasive essays obtained from online ACT writing test prep web site. Continue with the brainstorming process for a new persuasive essay topic...students will be encouraged to use Inspiration concept mapping software.
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT: Spring Break narratives must be completed outside of class time in order to receive full credit.
Wednesday Students will compose a rough draft of a persuasive essay following the guidelines and rubric provided in class.
Thursday Students will participate in a teacher-led and independent-practice peer review of student essays. They will continue with essay compositions with any remaining time.
Friday Students will word process the final draft of their persuasive essays.

Thursday No Class.  CHS will be running hours 4, 5 & 6 today.  Students will be beginning a major web site development project when they return from spring break.

Monday 3rd hour only:
Students will return to another unit focusing on writing skills.  The primary lesson today will involve completing a teacher-developed activity focusing on the identification of complete sentences, including basic punctuation, within several groupings of multiple sentences.  This is also known as "More Sentence Fun" #4.
4th hour:
No Class.  PLC for staff members.
Tuesday
  1. Students and the teacher will review yesterday's assignment if not completed on Monday.
  2. Students will review the 1-2-3-2-3-1 method of paragraph writing.  Teacher will model correct paragraph development, including brainstorming.
  3. Students will develop 1-2-3-2-3-1 paragraphs independently.
  4. The class will begin reviewing model/sample persuasive essays obtained from online ACT writing test prep web site.
Wednesday 3rd hour only:
Students will complete reviewing model/sample persuasive essays obtained from online ACT writing test prep web site.  Students will begin the brainstorming process for a new persuasive essay topic...students will be encouraged to use Inspiration concept mapping software.

Monday Last week students completed a detailed reading of the Declaration of Independence, followed by an extensive quiz on the document.  They ended the week viewing the film "National Treasure."
Today students will begin reading informational text (pages 42 - 57) dealing with the time period following the Declaration of Independence and prior to the drafting of the United States Constitution.  This includes:
  • The Confederation Period
  • The Constitutional Convention
  • Plans & Compromises
  • The Struggle for Ratification
Tuesday Students will complete reading of the textbook material referenced above.  Students will begin Study Questions based on the material found on the pages referenced above.
Wednesday No Class.  1/2 day due to Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Thursday Complete Study Questions.
Friday No Class.  Spring Break.
