Monday, January 23^rd, 2012 1.) Passed out “How can a microscope help us study living things?” packet. 2.) Students had work time for 45 minutes. 3.) Minute RICE: students read a short article about cells and answered 4 multiple choice questions about the article. (School-wide Reading Initiative) 4.) Did a short lesson on the parts of the microscope and the proper use of it. 5.) Told students they would have a quiz on Tuesday over the parts of the microscope and how to calculate the magnification powers.	Monday, January 23^rd, 2012 1.) Read Chapter 21 Section 1- did not finish reading. 2.) Passed out 21.1 w.s. “Weathering and Soil” to anybody who needed it. (I provided it last week on Thursday for a head start) 3.) Told students that 21.1 w.s. would be collected Tuesday when we finish reading.
Tuesday, January 24^th, 2012 1.) Graded and collected the “How can a microscope help us study living things?” packet. 2.) Gave the microscope quiz. 3.) Passed out the “Preparing to Use a Microscope” lab: we went to the computer lab to research microscope images of various microbes that we will be looking at in a lab activity tomorrow with a real microscope. 4.) Lab is due Wednesday	Tuesday, January 24^th, 2012 1.) Finished reading Ch. 21 Section 1 “Weathering and Soil” aloud as a class. 2.) I provided notes on the big screen for them to write in their science notebook if they want to. 3.) Let students know that they will be taking a quiz on Wednesday over 21.1 and that it may or may not be open notes.

Friday, January 27^th, 2012 1.) Reviewed Activity 38 “Microbes, Plants, and You” lab by showing students microscope images of human blood, onion cells, and cheek cells on the big screen. These are the same images they were to magnify and sketch for Activity 38 Lab. 2.) Collected Activity 38 “Microbes, Plants, and You” lab sheet. 3.) Explained Activity 36 “Looking for Signs of Life” lab. 4.) Students magnified images of human hair and pond water and drew sketches of both. 5.) Activity 36 Lab is to be completed for homework.	Friday, January 27^th, 2012 1^st and 3^rd Hour: 1.) Watched Bill Nye: “Fossils and Erosion.” 5^th and 6^th Hour: 1.) Finish reading 21.2 and giving them notes on the big screen that students could write down- by choice. 2.) 21.2 w.s. should be completed and ready to turn on Tuesday when I return to the classroom. (I was out of the bldg. 1^st and 3^rd hour and will be out of the classroom for all classes Monday)

I told students to bring a small object to make an impression into clay with for the “Discovering History Through Fossils” lab we will be doing soon. 4.) I also reminded students of our upcoming Chapter 21 TEST. I told them to plan for Friday of this week, but that it may be later. (They were told last week that it would be Thursday or Friday of this week.)
Thursday, February 2^nd, 2012 1.) Watch “Cells and Their Organelles” movie. 2.) During the movie students can finish cell diagram coloring. 3.) Collect colored Plant and Animal Cell Diagrams. 4.) Passed out labeled plant and animal cell diagrams that explain the function of each organelle. 5.) Passed out a Cell Note-Taking Guide- I told them to hold on to these so we can work on them together in class tomorrow.	Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 1.) Finish reading Ch. 21 Section 4. 2.)
