I grew up in Sterling Heights, attending Guardian Angels Elementary School and then De La Salle Collegiate High School, graduating Summa Cum Laude in the Class of 1999. I attended and received my Bachelor of Arts in History and Teacher Certification from the University of Detroit Mercy, graduating Magna Cum Laude in the Class of 2003. During the 2004-2005 school year, I began working as a long-term substitute teacher at Cousino High School for most of the school year, and I was subsequently hired for a full-time position beginning in the 2005-2006 school year. I worked at Cousino for four years, Beer Middle School for three years, and am now in my fourth year teaching at Warren Mott High School. During my time at Beer Middle School, I also received a Masters in the Art of Teaching Degree from Marygrove College, awarded in 2011.
For almost the entire time I have been teaching in the Warren Consolidated School District, I have been involved with student leadership, in one form or another. Except for one semester, I was Co-Advisor for the Leadership Class the entire time I taught at Cousino. For the three years I was at Beer, I was Co-Advisor for the Student Activities Council, which was that middle school's version of Leadership. And aside from my first semester at Warren Mott, I have been Co-Advisor for the Leadership Class at Warren Mott during my entire time here. I am incredibly passionate about and deeply connected to the Leadership Program and believe highly in the value of the program. It has produced some of the most dedicated, hardest-working, and finest students I have ever had the pleasure of working with. These students give so much of themselves and work so hard to bring so much to Warren Mott High School, and I couldn't be prouder to be associated with them.
Mrs. Balasia is a proud Warren Mott High School ('95) and Michigan State University ('00, '07) graduate. Her world revolves around God and her family. You may see her loving husband, Brian, and her two very energetic kids, Brooks (3) and Mallory (1 ½), at events around Warren Mott. In her very limited spare time, Mrs. Balasia enjoys dance and working out.
Leadership has been in Mrs. Balasia's blood all her life. A product of the Leadership class herself, Mrs. Balasia believes that Leadership is THE most transformative class that Warren Mott offers. Many of our successful graduates will testify that this was their absolute favorite class they took in high school. Mrs. Balasia loves the energy and the passion that her Leadership family brings every single day and is proud to be part of it!
